Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss has been targetted by a remote-controlled prank, while speaking at a pro-Trump event in America.

While speaking at the US event, in a salad-green dress, the 49-day PM had a banner unfurl behind her with a large lettuce on it, captioned with the words: "I crashed the economy."

The lettuce that outlasted Liz Truss, a stunt organised by the Daily Star to see if her radical tax-slashing leadership could outlast a common or garden lettuce. As it turned out, the salad vegetable, adorned with googly eyes and a blonde wig, had a much longer lifespan than her Government.

Anti-Brexit campaigners Led By Donkeys, who have orchestrated similar surprise demonstrations against pro-Brexit politicians in the past, took responsibility for the surprise lettuce banner on social media - and revealed a rather elaborate set-up for the political prank.

In order to set up the prank at Liz Truss' pro-Trump speaking tour, the anti-Brexit campaigners had to position a remote-controlled banner ahead of time, for it to unfurl at the perfect moment.

In a video of the moment the banner unfurled, Truss says: "I support trump and I want him to win... But the, it's what I was saying about incumbents, i think the average American is not doing well and people do vote on..."

Then, the banner begins to unfurl. First showing the words "I crashed the economy," as the former Prime Minister continues, unaware: "I think it was Bill Clinton's adviser who said its the economy stupid, so I think that he will probably win."

Truss, whose radical and uncosted plan for the economy saw the cost of people's mortgages skyrocket, forcing her to resign, can be seen silently fuming as the hosts attempt to figure out where the banner came from.

Gathering her things, the former PM says quietly, "That's not funny", and walked off stage.

The political prank took place as the former PM seeks support across the pond, yesterday endorsing Elon Musk's remarks, counter to the political establishment who have rebuked the billionaire for using Twitter/X to amplify disinformation and cause riots in the UK.

The former PM's support comes after Musk responded to the EU requesting that the Space X-owner avoid spreading misinformation during an event with Donald Trump, by posting an image from the Tropic Thunder film.

The meme told the EU official to “Take a big step back and literally, **** your own face!”

Ms Truss said: “I am appalled by the attacks on free speech in Britain and Europe. We can't be truly free without free speech.
