A Chicago man charged in the fatal shooting of a young father after last month’s Puerto Rican Day parade is now expected in court Friday after being extradited from California on a warrant related to the shooting.
Anthony Lorenzi, 34, of the 1000 block of North Hamlin Avenue, was arrested about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at O’Hare International Airport after the extradition. Chicago police have said Lorenzi was arrested July 9 in San Diego on suspicion of fatally shooting Gyovanny Arzuaga, 24, of Hanover Park. A warrant was issued for Lorenzi’s arrest June 23.

Lorenzi was initially expected to have a bond hearing in Cook County court Thursday, but his attorney Michael Oppenheimer requested that it be delayed until Friday.
The June 19 shooting was captured on a video that went viral and sparked outrage.
Arzuaga was shot about 9 p.m. in Humboldt Park following the parade. Also fatally shot was the mother of his two young children, Yasmin Perez, 23. Police have said she appears to have been unintentionally shot to death by Arzuaga during the “frenzy” of the night’s events, set off by a minor traffic collision.
After the crash, a group of people approached the vehicle, and “you basically had a swarm of people attack the car and were beating and pulling on the two victims ... punching them, trying to pull them out of the car,” Brendan Deenihan, who oversees the detective division for Chicago police has said.
