SHAH ALAM: A 31-year-old man was charged at the Sessions Court here with money laundering involving RM470,000.
Norman Zakaria, who is the director of a foreign exchange investment company, had allegedly committed the offence in November last year.
He pleaded not guilty before judge Muhamad Anas Mahadzir.
According to the charge sheet, Norman had transferred the allegedly ill-gotten funds from the account of his company Essence Pro Services to an account of another company at a bank in Petaling Jaya.
For the alleged wrongdoing, Norman was charged under Subsection 4(1) (b) Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLATFPUAA) 2001(Act 613) which was read together with subsection 87(1) Act 613, which can be punished under subsection 4(1) of the same Act.
Norman was liable to a jail term of up to 15 years and a fine not less than five times more the amount involved or RM5mil whichever is higher.
Muhamad Anas set bail at RM7,000 with one surety and fixed mention of the case on Jan 20 next year.
DPPs Fairuz Syuhada Amran and Vivien Yeap Jie Xi prosecuted.
Norman was unrepresented.
