KOTA KINABALU: The Sawit Kinabalu Group has sponsored food baskets worth RM1mil for communities in 15 districts in Sabah.

The government-linked company will channel the food baskets through the district offices and the district Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB) in Papar, Beaufort, Membakut, Kota Kinabalu, Kota Marudu, Pitas, Beluran, Tongod, Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu, Tungku, Kunak, Semporna, Tawau, and Kalabakan.

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor - who is the Sawit Kinabalu group chairman - witnessed the symbolic cheque presentation from the group managing director, Bacho Jansie, to state secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong, who is state Covid-19 disaster management committee chairman.

Bacho said Sawit Kinabalu Group’s contribution will benefit 10,000 households in the respective districts, and assured that the company will continue with its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities to help the needy, especially those impacted by the pandemic.

In a statement after the event, Hajiji said the state government has so far distributed 40,736 food baskets under the Bantuan Sabah Prihatin (BSP) 3.0 beginning last Saturday (June 19).

Previously, a total of 322,122 food baskets have been distributed under BSP 1.0, and 367,231 under BSP2.0, he added.

At the same time, he reiterated the need for everyone to be united in fighting Covid-19, including getting vaccinated as soon as possible.

“In addition to Community Development Leaders, I urge all elected representatives to be hands-on and continue with efforts in their respective constituencies to speed up the vaccination registration process so that we can achieve the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme's target.

“Likewise, I urge non-governmental organisations to volunteer their time and effort to help in this process.

“We need to step up manual registrations in places where Internet connectivity is lacking, and this is where help is most needed to complement the mobile outreach

       programmes,” he said.
