Daily cases breach the 6,000 mark

       PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 cases climbed above the 6,000 mark, with the country reporting 6,148 more coronavirus infections.

       This is an increase from 5,726 cases the previous day, and 4,782 on Monday.

       In his daily Covid-19 statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of yesterday’s cases, 98.4% or 6,047 cases are mild or asymptomatic infections.

       “Another 101 cases or 1.6% are those in Categories 3, 4 and 5,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

       There were 21 imported cases, involving 13 Malaysians and eight foreigners.

       Cumulatively, Malaysia recorded a total of 2,448,372 Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began.

       The country’s infectivity rate is starting to show an increase, with the latest RT level at 0.91 on Tuesday – up from 0.88 the day before.

       Malaysia also discharged another 7,595 patients in the same 24-hour span. This brings the total of Covid-19 recoveries to 2,347,985, which is a 95.9% recovery rate.

       Currently, there are 563 patients in intensive care units, of which 495 are confirmed Covid-19 cases and 68 are suspected cases. There are 292 people on ventilator support.

       The Health Ministry has also identified nine new Covid-19 clusters nationwide.

       Six of the clusters are workplace outbreaks, including a factory cluster in Bangi, Selangor which has 80 confirmed cases.
