CHIBA, Japan (Kyodo) -- Nineteen-year-old Hiroya Miyagi became the first pitcher to reach 10 wins this season as the surprising Orix Buffaloes beat the Lotte Marines 6-3 to maintain their 1-1/2 game Pacific League lead as play resumed after the Olympics on Friday.
Miyagi (10-1) allowed two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two over six innings.
Japan Olympic team member Masataka Yoshida doubled and scored on Yutaro Sugimoto's 19th home run in the first inning off Kota Futaki (4-5), and hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning that made it 6-1 Orix.
Orix is seeking its first championship since 1996, when Ichiro Suzuki led the Orix BlueWave to the PL and Japan Series pennants.
The loss left the third-place Marines 3-1/2 games back in the PL standings, a half-game ahead of the defending champion SoftBank Hawks.
At MetLife Dome, former Seibu Lions ace Takayuki Kishi (5-6) lost his no-hit bid with one out in the eighth inning, but the PL's second-place Rakuten Eagles held on for a 5-0 win.
At Fukuoka's PayPay Dome, Japan Olympian Yuki Yanagita hit a two-run homer, his 23rd, and Shuta Ishikawa (4-8) struck out 11 over 7-1/3 innings in the SoftBank Hawks' 3-0 win over the Nippon Ham Fighters.
At Tokyo Dome, Akihiro Wakabayashi hit a game-tying eighth-inning pinch-hit home run as the Yomiuri Giants overturned a late one-run deficit in a 4-2 win over the Chunichi Dragons, to move within one game of the Central League-leading Hanshin Tigers.
At Kyocera Dome Osaka, Daichi Osera (4-3) allowed a run over seven innings as the Hiroshima Carp beat the Tigers 9-3.
