KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein will liaise with Wisma Putra over the terrorism threat travel advisory released by the Japanese embassy to its citizens in Malaysia.
"I am aware of the travel advisory and have been briefed by our Military Intelligence on the issue.
"It leaned toward an issue on a social media platform. The Inspector General of Police has already made a statement on the matter.
"There was no basis at all related to terrorism," he told reporters on Tuesday.
He said he would liaise with Wisma Putra to find out why Japan would issue the statement.
"In terms of real threat, I can verify based on military intelligence and the Inspector General of Police that there is no cause for concern," he said.
It was reported that The terrorism threat travel advisory released by the Japanese embassy to its citizens in Malaysia was a routine notice, says Bukit Aman.
Bukit Aman Special Branch director Comm Datuk Zamri Yahya said so far there had not been any information on a possible terrorist threat in the country.
"The warning issued by the Japanese embassy to its citizens in Malaysia on the possibility of a terrorist attack in Southeast Asia was a travel advisory.
"These advisory notices are usually issued by an embassy or high commission for its citizens who are in foreign countries.
"The warnings are issued based on a threat assessment done by the country (who is issuing the warning).
"In this context, there is a possibility of a terrorist threat in the region (Southeast Asia)," he said when contacted on Monday (Sept 13).
So far, only the Japanese embassy in Kuala Lumpur had issued such a warning while other embassies and high commissions had not done so, he added.
Earlier on Monday, the Japanese embassy in Kuala Lumpur had confirmed that a warning had been issued to its citizens in Malaysia over possible terrorist threats in Southeast Asia.
The advisory was issued to all of its citizens in Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Myanmar to stay away from religious facilities and other crowded areas.
