IPOH: A foreign worker, believed to have stolen jewellery worth about RM15,000 from a house in Taman Rapat Setia here, has been arrested by the police.

       Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the 35-year-old was arrested in a house in Pasir Puteh at about 1.50pm on Sunday (June 19).

       ACP Yahaya said the police also seized various items, including jewellery worth about RM13,000 and receipts from pawn and jewellery shops during the arrest.

       "We received a report about the theft at about 3pm on Saturday (June 18).

       "The complainant believed that the jewellery was stolen by a foreign worker who came to clean the house.

       "The police then launched a special operation and arrested the suspect, about 24 hours after the report was received. We believe the jewellery seized belongs to the complainant," he said in a statement on Monday (June 20).

       ACP Yahaya said the suspect would be remanded for four days from June 20 to 23.

       He said the case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building.

       "We would like to advise to be mindful of their belongings to minimise opportunities for criminals.

       "At the same time, operators of pawn and jewellery shops are also reminded to be careful not to deal with stolen items," he added.
