KUALA LUMPUR: A police inquiry paper has been opened in connection with the "PASleaks" issue.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said an investigation paper was not opened, but an inquiry paper instead.

“The purpose of an inquiry paper is to get the gist of the complainant’s report and why he made such claims.

“We also want to determine if any criminal offence was committed,” he told a press conference at city police headquarters here on Wednesday (April 27).

Further action will be determined by the outcome of the inquiry, he added.

‘The one who lodged the report will be called up as part of the inquiry,” he said.

On Saturday (April 23), Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the "PASLeaks" document was not unusual and did not need to be played up.

Annuar, who is also Ketereh MP, said based on his understanding after going through the document, they were only notes by PAS leaders in establishing facts and views of other political party leaders.

The leaked report involves an alleged plot said to involve Terengganu Mentri Besar and PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) secretary-general and Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

The plot includes a plan to “expedite” the sentencing of certain Umno leaders charged in court.

The document also claimed that Takiyuddin and Ahmad Samsuri, who supposedly acted as operators to engage with leaders of several political parties, had met with Umno’s Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein to discuss the general election and possible cooperation.

Hishammuddin, Ahmad Samsuri and Hamzah have since denied the existence of such a plot.

Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, however, said the matter should be taken seriously.

“Of course, loyal party members will always be vigilant in every statement, every step, stance and action of their leaders and the leaders of their opponents. Do not be easily deceived,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday (April 23).
