The Government has been under immense pressure recently with regards to the so-called ‘pingdemic’. Hundreds of thousands of people have been contacted by the NHS app telling them to self-isolate for 10 days after they’ve been in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. Many businesses are struggling with worker shortages and some have been forced to shut down.

       The backlash has also been fuelled by Boris Johnson’s initial refusal to self-isolate after he was in contact with Health Secretary Sajid Javid who tested positive for the virus.

       According to a poll carried out by J L Partners, while 72 percent of people who took part believe that the Government’s Covid stance has been a “shambles” in the last few days, there is a clear backing for the Prime Minister’s “if not now, when?“ approach.

       The survey included 1,021 adults in England, Wales and Scotland who were interviewed online on Monday and Tuesday.

       The participants also claimed that unless there is a full-scale NHS crisis and if Covid deaths remain low, they are opposed to renewed curbs.

       However, more than 20 percent have claimed that they have either deleted the NHS app from their electronic devices or have turned it off.

       And, almost one in five of those who got rid of the app have done so since Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak caused mass confusion by failing to self-isolate before public pressure mounted.

       Among those who are using the app, 24 percent have stated that they are considering turning it off.

       More than 60 percent of the public have said that the havoc caused by Mr Johnson and Mr Sunak will make people less likely to obey self-isolation rules with 72 percent claiming that it will lead to more people deleting the app.

       76 percent of people believe that what Mr Johnson did shows that senior Conservative politicians think there is “one rule for them and another for everyone else”.

       However, many participants of the survey have backed Mr Johnson.

       An overwhelming 72 percent have said it is time for the nation to ”live with Covid because the curbs cannot last forever”.

       The poll further showed that people want to ‘get back to normal’ with 33 percent of participants saying that if Covid deaths are at the same level as flu deaths, restrictions should be decreased.

       Similarly, 28 percent say curbs should continue to be eased if hospitalisation rates remain high while deaths stay low.

       However, the vast majority are in favour of another Covid crackdown if the NHS is in danger of being over-run by a big upsurge in cases.

       Nearly three in four voters believe there will be another lockdown in the winter.

       Overall, 61 percent of people believe that Mr Johnson has handled Covid badly with 31 percent saying that he has handled it well.

       The news comes after the UK recorded another 46,558 coronavirus cases and 96 deaths yesterday.
