AN internal investigation into the alleged misappropriation of Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (Mitra) funds will be conducted, says Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique.
The National Unity Minister said the investigation would be carried out after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had completed its probe.
“Let them do (complete) theirs. They will check not only the companies but also the approval processes and who was responsible for giving the approvals,” she said when wrapping up her ministerial replies on Budget 2022 at the committee stage at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
Halimah was replying to M. Kulasegaran (PH-Ipoh Barat) who had asked whether the ministry had formed a special task force or committee to probe the allegations and if the MACC had called to assist in the investigation.
“We will cooperate with the MACC in its investigation,” said Halimah.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki had said that the commission’s investigation into 10 companies alleged to have misappropriated Mitra funds were almost complete.
He also added that MACC was pushing for some suspects to be charged.
