SIBU: The body of a retiree who was reported missing during a fishing trip two days ago, has been found on Monday (Feb 7).

The Fire and Rescue Department said the body of 63-year-old Sia Yiik Heng was found at 9am at Tanjung Kunyit, Sungai Rajang.

“The search and rescue team received a call from a person who said he saw the body of a man floating in the river about 5km away from where his boat was found,” it said.

Other than the Fire and Rescue Department, the other agencies involved were the Civil Defence Force and Marine Police.

Sia's wife had reported that her husband did not come home after going alone to catch fish at Sungai Maaw, Paradom near here.

The man told her that he would be home at about 12.30pm as he will be sending their child to the airport.

When her husband failed to return home, she went to the place at about 4pm in search of him.

However she only found his car parked near the Nan Chong Jetty at Sungai Maaw.

A search and rescue (SAR) operation was then launched. The SAR team found the man’s boat at about 9.50am on Sunday (Feb 6) at Tanjung Ensurai several kilometres from Nan Chong Jetty.
