KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak Pakatan Harapan will support the proposed amendment to Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution to restore the position of Sabah and Sarawak to what it was when the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) was signed.

Its chairman Chong Chieng Jen revealed that a group of Sarawak and Sabah MPs had attended a meeting with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar to discuss the matter.

"For us, Sarawak Pakatan, we have no reason to oppose the proposed amendment as it was similar to the amendments that we proposed (under Pakatan), although it comes two years late," Chong said at a press conference in Parliament Tuesday (Oct 12).

Chong said Pakatan had suggested similar amendments while it was in power but the proposed amendment was rejected by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Umno and PAS.

"Since it comes from them now, we have no reason to oppose it," he added.

He also urged the Federal Government to include education and healthcare in the concurrent list between the state and the federal government.

Wan Junaidi had previously said that the focus will be given on amending articles of the Constitution related to the Malaysian Agreement 1963 (MA63).

He said that the matter was close to the heart of the people and special attention will be given to it.
