KUCHING: Sarawak's daily Covid-19 cases dropped to 835 on Tuesday (Aug 17) after the record high of 1,566 the previous day.
Kuching continued to register the highest number of cases with 464, followed by Samarahan with 142.
Another 26 districts recorded between one and 40 cases each to take Sarawak's cumulative tally to 89,407, the state disaster management committee said in a statement.
Nearly all the cases were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms, with only one case in the most severe category five (symptomatic and requiring ventilation).
The committee also said there were two new fatalities, bringing the state's death toll to 489.
The latest deaths were a 79-year-old man who died at Sibu Hospital and a 77-year-old woman who died at the Sarawak General Hospital here.
Both had various comorbidities including hypertension, diabetes and heart disease.
In addition, three new workplace clusters and one community cluster were identified in the state.
The community cluster was detected among several families at Kampung Lopeng Tengah and Kampung Wireless in Miri, with 31 confirmed cases to date.
The workplace clusters involved supermarket workers in Bintulu, Sri Aman and Bau with five, 13 and 16 confirmed cases respectively so far.
There are currently 109 active clusters in the state, including 14 which registered a total of 187 new cases on Tuesday.
