The Tory MP and soccer coach said the modest manager deserved the honour. She said “He should be knighted – but he’s such a humble man that he would be embarrassed by the fact that these conversations are happening.”

       Julian Knight, Tory MP and chairman of the sports select committee, added: “[Gareth’s] contribution to football has been amazing. He definitely deserves a knighthood.”

       And honours system expert Mark Llewellyn- Slade said Gareth will get a knighthood for a win or receive a CBE if they finish as runners-up tomorrow night.
