ISLAMABAD: After the recovery of a bag carrying grenades and a pistol along with a threatening note and a map from one of the trails, a mock exercise has been scheduled from 9am to 3pm on Thursday at Trail 3 and Trail 5 to assess preparation and response time in case of a security emergency.
Officials of the capital administration and the police said after the recovery of the bag on Sunday the police took control of the trail and its adjacent area.
However, on the very next day, some criminals attacked and injured a woman; besides, they snatched her gold chain, gold ring, and iPhone.
Keeping in view the security situation, the capital administration has decided to conduct a mock exercise at the two trails to assess the preparation and response against any untoward incident, they said, adding that Trail 5 is facing a sector that houses the Judges Enclave, Ministers Enclave, and provincial houses.
A letter issued by the office of the district magistrate and addressed to the SSP operations and security division and CDA director environment said that in order to avoid any untoward incidents and make necessary security arrangements during a mock exercise, it has been decided to close trails 3 and 5 from 9am to 3pm on September 21.
The assistant commissioner of the city will coordinate with all concerned, it added. A map identifying the Judges Enclave and two police posts were also found in the bag.
After the recovery, a case was registered at the police station of the Counter Terrorism Department under Section 7 of the ATA, the 4/5 Explosive Act, and the Arms Ordinance.
Similarly, a case was also registered at the Secretariat police station under Section 385 of the PPC in response to a woman’s complaint. According to the FIR, the woman came to Trail 5 for a walk, where a man attacked her from behind, and snatched her gold chain, gold ring, and iPhone before managing to flee.
