KUCHING: Sarawak's daily Covid-19 case numbers rose to 301 on Monday (July 19), with more than half coming from Kuching.
The state disaster management committee said 193 cases were recorded in Kuching, followed by Bau with 26 and Sarikei with 23.
Another 16 districts reported between one and 10 cases each, bringing the state's cumulative tally to 71,601.
The state recorded 261 new cases on Sunday.
Of the new cases, 187 were close contacts of Covid-19 patients, while 36 were detected from active clusters in the state.
"There were also three imported cases involving individuals returning from Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan and Selangor," the committee said in a statement.
In addition, it said three fatalities were reported in the state, taking the death toll to 447.
The latest deaths were a 50-year-old woman who died at the Sarawak General Hospital here, and two men aged 76 and 79 who were brought in dead, one to Sarikei Hospital and the other to Kapit Hospital.
The committee also said two new clusters were identified, including one involving detainees at the Satok police station lockup here.
"The Pagar Satok cluster has 24 positive cases from 83 individuals screened, comprising 11 foreigners and 13 Sarawakians," it said.
In Sarikei, the Jalan Selalang cluster was detected at a longhouse in Sungai Kerubong, Jalan Selalang.
It has 37 confirmed cases to date, including 21 new cases reported on Monday, while 52 tested negative out of 89 individuals screened.
