SIBU: A new base for the 10th Battalion General Operations Force (GOF) will be built in Jakar, Sarikei by 2025.

       Its Commanding Officer, Supt Mohammad Hafiz Kadir, said the project is in the construction stage after it was approved by the Federal Government.

       "The time frame for the camp to be completed is three years or the latest by 2025, when it is expected to be operational," he told reporters after officiating the 215th Police Day celebration on Friday (March 25).

       He added the existing Lanang Base would still be maintained.

       "We are not leaving this base. We are still placing personnel here," he said.

       Meanwhile, he said the GOF in Sibu had seized RM2.9mil worth of contraband in relation to nine cases so far this year.

       The seizures included non -taxable liquor/alcohol, cigarettes along with timber.

       He added, his personnel will be involved in operations when the borders reopen

       A total of 170 GOF personnel were involved in the 215th Police Day parade with 36 members including staff receiving certificates of appreciation.
