The Summer Olympics are almost done in Paris. We asked some of our favorite cartoonists to live-illustrate the biggest cultural moments from the Games.

For the first time, the women athletes make up almost half of this year’s competitors — near gender parity in participation. While it took over a century for the Olympics to reach this milestone, the athletes are rising to the occasion, and the audiences are following suit.
As the Paris Games draw to a close, Colleen Tighe took a look back on the first “gender equal Olympics,” how the athletes have broken barriers and where women’s sports organizations still need to go from here.
Colleen Tighe is an illustrator, motion designer, and occasional writer and cartoonist, currently living in Barcelona.

Eventing is known as the triathlon of the equestrian world due to the versatile demands of the sport. Horses and their athletes must be well-rounded in three categories: dressage, cross country and show jumping. Cartoonist and horse lover Lisa Hanawalt brought us along as she watched her favorite of the three phases, cross country, which took place July 28 at the Palace of Versailles.
Lisa Hanawalt is the creator of Tuca & Bertie and the production designer/producer of the Netflix series BoJack Horseman.

Egyptian Nada Hafez lost in the round of 16 women’s individual sabre on Monday — the best result of her three Olympic appearances. It’s a remarkable feat, given that she achieved it while seven months pregnant. “What appears to you as two players on the podium, they were actually three!” Hafez revealed on Instagram after the competition.
While Olympians competing while pregnant is far from new, being open about it is. And with advancements in facilities, some are calling these the friendliest Games yet for athletes who are parents. Cartoonist Hannah Good broke down the international response to Hafez’s announcement and the history of pregnancy and parenting at the Games.
Hannah Good is a Designer at The Post who focuses on comics and illustrated reporting.
