JOHOR BARU: Parti Warisan Sabah has joined the fray in Johor with the aim of changing the country’s political landscape, said its president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.
He dismissed the notion that Warisan is a spoiler in the state election.
“Warisan is here to offer a chance to Johoreans to change the political landscape of the country.
“Since when did we come here (Johor) to split the votes? We want the people to decide,” he said during a meet-and-greet session with the people of Bandar Seri Alam here on Sunday night.
He urged Johor voters to decide on who they want leading the state – the government or the Opposition.
Shafie was commenting on DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s statement that Warisan is only contesting in Johor to split the votes for the Opposition.
“I also heard that he had said we are not here to win. He is wrong... we are here to win.
“Just because I did not sign the memorandum of understanding between the government and Pakatan Harapan, is it wrong for Warisan to contest?” he said.
He also said that Warisan is making preparations for the coming general election.
Asked to comment on Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin’s statement that Warisan was only using Johor as a testing ground without any solid plans, Shafie insisted that his party is here to offer a choice to Johoreans.
Warisan is making its electoral debut on the peninsula by fielding six candidates in the Johor election – in Bekok, Mahkota, Johor Jaya, Permas, Bukit Batu and Pekan Nanas.
