KLANG: The Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) is looking at setting up a new Selangor Maritime Complex here.

Its deputy director general (logistics) Vice Admiral Datuk Saiful Lizan Ibrahim said they were looking at a number of locations near Port Klang.

"This year, we have received a portion of our allocated funds which will be used to maintain our assets.

"We hope that we will have the budget to start building the complex by next year," he told reporters after witnessing the handing over of duties ceremony of the Selangor Maritime director on Wednesday (May 18).

He said the estimated cost to build the complex would be between RM300mil and RM400mil.

"Size of land required for the complex without staff quarters would be around eight hectares," he said.

Meanwhile on acquiring assets, Saiful Lizan said they would be taking delivery of four new helicopters this year.

He added that they would also be receiving all three offshore patrol vessels (OPV) which are capable of spending a maximum of 21 days at sea without coming back for resupply by the end of 2023.

"We will also be taking delivery of nine fast interceptor boats this year.

"These 12 meter-long boats are currently being built in Johor and we will receive the nine boats in three batches," he said.
