JOHOR BARU: A Larkin voter has lodged a police report against one of the candidates vying for the state seat for allegedly having a high-tea session with voters to gain support.
Contractor Muhammad Syafiz Zainol said he decided to lodge a police report against PKR candidate Dr Zamil Najwah Arbain as he viewed the act as an offence under the Election Offences Act.
"I saw a video of him having hi-tea with the people. As a voter, I feel that this is a form of bribery to get the people's votes.
"As a candidate, he should not be involved in such an act. It is unfair," he said after filing the police report at the Johor Baru South police headquarters on Monday (Feb 28).
Muhammad Syafiz, 39, said he had no bad intentions and would also file a report against candidates from other parties if he spotted them doing a similar act.
"I am not siding with anyone as this is my responsibility as a Larkin voter," he said.
Dr Zamil will be facing a six-cornered fight against Barisan Nasional's Mohd Hairi Mad Shah, Malaysian United Democratic Alliance's Rasid Abu Bakar, Parti Pejuang Tanah Air's Mohamad Riadz Mohamad Hashim, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's Zulkifli Bujang and independent candidate Norramadan Buan.
