Meghan Markle will not be bringing Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet back to the UK with her any time soon because she had "no desire" to come back to Prince Harry's home country, a royal expert has claimed.

The Duchess of Sussex resides in Montecito, California, where lives in a lavish mansion with her family following her exit from the Firm in 2020.

Meghan last set foot in Britain back in 2022 for Queen Elizabeth's funeral, with Archie spending a brief time in the UK during his early years, and Lilibet only visiting once, also in 2022, for the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

But Harry's trip back to the UK next month to attend his ongoing trial against News Group Newspapers (NGN), the publisher of the Sun newspaper, had royal watchers talking about the possibility of the duchess and their two children joining him.

However, royal expert Jennie Bond dismissed the prospect of Meghan coming back.

She told the Mirror: "I still don't think he will feel comfortable bringing Meghan and the children here unless there is a guarantee of full police protection.

"And I suspect Meghan has no particular desire to come back here anyway."

The Duke of Sussex has been in a legal battle with the UK Government after he contested the Home Office's February 2020 decision that he should receive a different degree of protection when he returned to the UK following his departure from the Royal Family.

He lost the case back in February with High Court judge Sir Peter Lane finding that "there has not been any unlawfulness in reaching the decision" to revise his security, however, he is expected to appeal in April.

Elsewhere, Ms Bond added that Archie and Lilibet may question their estrangement from the royals when they get older.

She said: "Children grow up and are innately curious about their heritage and background… and when your heritage is one of the most famous families in the world, it will undoubtedly seem rather odd and perhaps sad that you hardly know or remember them," she said.

"Imagine Archie, aged 15, telling his friends, 'My grandpa is/was King! And my Uncle is/will be King too.' But he hardly knew or met them. How sad… and Meghan would have to bear the brunt of the responsibility for that."
