AMPANG: Three policemen have been detained for allegedly extorting a car sales agent in Dataran Pandan Prima here.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said a 30-year-old victim claimed two policemen stopped him when he was driving at about 11.30am on Tuesday (Jan 11).
“The suspects checked the victim’s phone and claimed he was in wrongful possession of a document,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 13).
ACP Mohamad Farouk said the suspects allegedly demanded cash to settle the problem.
“Scared, the victim handed over some cash and transferred a further sum online to a bank account,” he said.
Three policemen, aged from 36 to 40, were detained at about 2pm on Wednesday (Jan 12).
“Efforts to track down other accomplices, especially the owner of the bank account, are ongoing,” he said.
Those arrested have been remanded until Sunday (Jan 16), he said.
“Those who have encountered such a situation are urged to come forward,” he said, adding that action would be taken against any police officer or personnel involved in wrongdoing or crime.
