AMPANG: A part-time contractor has been remanded for seven days to assist in an investigation into the suspected abuse of a three-year-old boy in Pandan Perdana.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the 41-year-old man has been remanded until Monday (May 23).
"We are investigating the case under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001," he said when contacted on Tuesday (May 17).
The man was arrested at Jalan Besar Taman Dagang at about 5.40pm on Monday (May 16).
"The suspect is a friend of the victim's father, who was entrusted to looking after the boy temporarily," ACP Mohamad Farouk said.
Police received a report from an individual at 1pm Saturday (May 14) who heard the child crying at the house and saw injuries on the child's face and body.
The victim is now in stable condition and placed in the Ampang Hospital Paediatric Ward for further observation and treatment.
According to ACP Mohamad Farouk, investigations found that the suspect was a temporary guardian since last January because the toddler's parents were serving a prison sentence for drug offences.
