THIERRY Mugler, a world renowned fashion designer, died January 23, 2022, at the age of 73.

       The icon, who dressed some of the world's biggest stars, had suffered a series of accidents during his lifetime.

       It's no secret that Thierry Mugler had undergone a number of surgeries on his body and face following his accidents.

       He considered the human body as “an instrument for artistic excellence”, Interview Magazine said.

       In an interview with the publication, Mugler spoke to Tippi Hedren about his surgeries in detail.

       He said: “I had several accidents. One was crashing in a Jeep, during which my nose was completely destroyed."

       He had to undergo nose reconstruction surgery following the accident.

       Motorcycle crash

       Mugler also told Hedron he had been involved in a motorcycle accident involving steel cables.

       The injury needed him to remove a piece of metal from his leg.

       Despite the accident, Mugler didn't go to hospital because of his busy schedule and only agreed to undergo surgery following warnings from his doctors.

       He said: "Another motorcycle accident involved steel cables, after which I had to remove a piece of metal from my leg.

       “There was all this anaesthesia and stuff, and I could never motivate myself to go back to the hospital because I’m so busy, and the surgeon was screaming at me, because they had to take this piece of metal out my leg.

       Mugler said he wanted to make the surgery “fun” and asked a surgeon to perform work on his chin at the same time.

       He admitted: “I said, 'Let’s find a way to make this fun!' I asked another surgeon if he could do some things to my chin, and then I was happy to get the bloody anaesthesia.

       “He actually took a piece of bone from my hip and put it in my chin, so I don’t have any plastic or silicone. It’s all bones."

       Gym accident

       Mugler told Numero that he never “had any implants” but that he did “undergo facial reconstruction” after a terrible gym accident that smashed his face.

       He said in 2017: “I had a facial reconstruction following a serious gym accident that completely knocked my face down.

       "My body is in perpetual construction.”

       He also said he wanted his face to showcase the “progress” he went through over the years.

       “I wanted my face to represent progress, because after years of being a thin, charming dancer, I wanted to be a warrior," he added.

       "I’ve done so much in my life. I’ve fought so much. I’m a superhero, so it’s normal to have the face of one.”

       Despite having suffered from quite a few accidents, Mugler believed that the process of facial surgeries resonated with his “architectural research” and helped him “to go further and higher”.
