Rishi Sunak says he will give his £400 energy rebate to charity
Boris Johnson is fending off increasing pressure to resign over the report, with 24 of his own MPs now publicly calling for him to step down from parliament.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet Office has appeared to reject claims that Sue Gray’s Partygate report was tampered with prior to publication, with details of an alleged party at Boris Johnson’s Downing Street flat supposedly removed.
Senior members of Mr Johnson’s team are also alleged to have put pressure on the civil servant to remove certain details and names from her report into coronavirus rule-breaking, according to the Sunday Times, which quoted a source as saying that “the entire machine fought her” once she made clear an intention to publish emails and WhatsApp messages.
But the Cabinet Office insisted on Sunday that Ms Gray’s report “was impartially conducted and its contents represent the findings and conclusions of the investigation team alone”.

Show latest update 1653900889 Inside Politics: Partygate hangover continues
MPs continue to raise questions about Boris Johnson’s future in the wake of Sue Gray’s Partygate report. Elsewhere, there are growing calls for an investigation into the chaotic scenes at Saturday night’s Champions League final involving Liverpool.
It may be a new week but it is a very familiar story causing Boris Johnson a fresh headache this morning. Just days after the PM amended the ministerial code ahead of the privileges committee investigation into whether he misled parliament over Partygate, there were two major updates in the scandal yesterday.
Both raise yet more questions about the transparency and impartiality of Sue Gray’s investigation into the sorry saga.

1653897974 Imperial measurements desperate ‘nostalgia’, says Tory MP
Fellow Tory MP Tobias Ellwood – another critic of the PM – said the idea of bringing back imperial measurements as a desperate attempt to “shore up and chase a slice off the electorate”.
The defence select committee chair said: “There will be some people in our party which will like this nostalgic policy in the hope that it’s enough to win the next election. But this is not the case.“
This is not one-nation Conservative thinking that is required to appeal beyond our base. It’s far from the inspirational, visionary progressive thinking that we require.”

1653896192 Imperial measurements will bring ‘British culture’ back to shops, claims minister
A government push to boost the use imperial measurements after Brexit will bring British “culture” back into shops, a minister has claimed.
Boris Johnson is expected to make an announcement this Friday to coincide with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee to pave the way for greater use of pounds, ounces, feet and inches.
Appearing to confirm the plan, technology minister Chris Philp told Sky News: “It’s allowing a bit of our national culture and heritage back onto the shop shelf.”

1653893912 Boris Johnson faces new questions over Partygate scandal amid drip-feed of resignation calls
Boris Johnson is facing renewed pressure over the Partygate scandal amid suggestions of a second gathering in the No 10 flat and a drip-feed of Tory MPs calling for his resignation.
Despite his attempts to “move on” from the rule-busting events that have rocked his premiership, allegations also emerged over the weekend that officials had attempted to dilute Sue Gray’s report.
On Sunday, the Cabinet Office was forced to issue a statement denying that senior figures had been able to edit or influence the 37-page document that was published on Wednesday.

1653892788 Stormont Assembly to make new attempt to elect speaker
The Stormont Assembly is set to meet on Monday in a fresh bid to nominate a speaker after more than 30 MLAs signed a recall petition.
Outgoing speaker Alex Maskey told MLAs that the purpose of Monday’s recall will be to elect a speaker, deputy speakers and to appoint a first minister and deputy first minister.
The move came following a motion from Sinn Fein, which the Democratic Unionist Party has denounced as a “stunt” by Sinn Fein, which emerged as the largest party in the Assembly election earlier this month.
The party has so far blocked the election of a speaker and the formation of an executive following the Northern Ireland Assembly elections, as part of its protest against the Northern Ireland Protocol.
On Sunday, Sinn Fein Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey denied that the return to Stormont was a stunt.
“It is not timewasting. We were elected to sit in Stormont, to make legislation and to protect people within our communities,” Ms Hargey said.

1653887726 PM’s critics have spread misinformation about ministerial code changes, says Lewis
Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis has called the opposition’s accusations on the prime minister of watering down ministerial code rules “misinformation”.
Mr Lewis said Mr Johnson, in issuing the changes, was following recommendations made by an independent standards body and his own ethics adviser, Lord Geidt.
However, Labour said Mr Johnson had cherry-picked which recommendations to follow, having refused to accept advice on writing the ministerial code into legislation and failing to grant stronger powers requested by Lord Geidt to commission his own probes.
