       KUWAIT CITY, May 26: A total of 10 MPs – Abdulkareem Al-Kandari, Marzouq Al-Khalifa, Fares Al-Otaibi, Hamdan Al-Azmi, Al-SaifiMubarak Al-Saifi, Muhammad Al-Mutair, Soud Bu Sleeb, Thamer Al- Suwait, Khalid Al-Otaibi and Mubarak Al-Hajraf – have sent a request to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mesha’al Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah to dissolve the National Assembly in order to end the current political crisis.

       These MPs pointed out that public opinion is reflected on the no-cooperation motion against His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al- Khalid whom they believe to have failed in managing the government, while supporting Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim to deprive the MPs of their right to use their political tools.

       In another development, MP Ahmad Al-Hamad has forwarded queries to Minister of Health Dr Khalid Al-Saeed about the justifications for assigning Metal and Recycling Company to handle medical waste in public and private hospitals, instead of the Waste Disposal Unit in the Public Authority for Industry. He wants to know why the Health Ministry violated the Central Agency for Public Tenders Law.

       Al-Hamad said the private clinics received a letter from the ministry, asking them to contract with Metal and Recycling Company for the collection of medical waste at a price of KD300 per month in addition to the transportation cost. He argued that the estimated amount of waste used as basis for specifying the aforementioned prices is almost one ton per month, while some clinics produce only a few kilograms of medical waste.

       MP Abdullah Al-Turaiji asked Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic and Investment Affairs Abdulwahab Al-Rashid about the reasons for suspending the budget for the staff at Kuwait University. He also asked Minister of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research Ali Al-Mudaf about the justifications for reducing the budget for the indemnity of employees whose jobs are related to scientific research and who have been in service for 30 years or more.

       MP Osama Al-Menawer asked the health minister why the general manager of Amiri Hospital has not been investigated for violations recorded by monitoring institutions, particularly the misappropriation of public funds.

       He enumerated some of the violations as follows:

       ■ Provision of refrigerated storages even if they did not meet the specified conditions like the alarm and emergency switch, resulting in damages to a large quantity of medicines and equipment,

       ■ Lack of technicians who could operate advanced equipment valued at KD74,000 in the laboratories,

       ■ Lack of accessories for mobile X-ray machines for more than six months; hence, the non-operation of 10 machines valued at KD 1.490 million,

       ■ Closure of 33 intensive care units (ICUs) due to shortage of staff,

       ■ Obsolescence of advanced equipment due to delayed installation like the machines imported in 2017 at a cost of KD2.2 million and they have not been installed so far. On the other hand, Deputy Chairman of Inter-Parliamentary Union MP Obaid Al-Wasmi attended the fifth Gulf-European Committee meeting through video conferencing.

       They discussed issues of mutual concern and ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation. Furthermore, Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim had separate meetings with French Ambassador to Kuwait Claire Le Flecher, Extraordinary Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan Azmat Karagolov and Ambassador of Japan Yasunari Morino.
