PETALING JAYA: A deputy minister has apologised after his vehicle was caught on video allegedly being driven dangerously in Kelantan.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary ( pic) made the apology after a video clip of the incident was circulated on social media.
He said the incident was being investigated by authorities, with his driver called in to give his statement.
“I will leave it to the authorities to take the appropriate action.
“If he gets punished, I hope it would result in him becoming a better person and also for myself. Let the punishment be meted out during this lifetime, so that we are freed from it in the afterlife,” the Pengkalan Chepa MP said in a statement.
Ahmad Marzuk also thanked those who recorded and criticised the incident, adding that he appreciated the advice given directly to him and via social media.
He said that as someone who wasn’t perfect, he would take responsibility over the incident, and use it to improve himself and his staff.
The video of the black MPV being driven recklessly and overtaking other vehicles on a road with double lines had gone viral recently.
“I apologise profusely over this issue. May this incident give us a chance to carry out our duties with more honesty and integrity for the sake of Malaysians,” Ahmad Marzuk added.
