MELAKA: Melaka is ready to allow traders at the iconic Jonker Walk and other night markets to operate – provided they have completed their second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said night markets and pasar tani were still not permitted to open although the state would be moving to Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) on Saturday (Sept 4).
"We need to meet the required threshold indicator, namely a two-dose vaccination before allowing night markets and pasar tani to reopen.
"We must make sure it's safe," he said here on Thursday (Sept 2).
Sulaiman was asked to comment whether famous night markets on Jonker Walk and Uptown Pahlawan Walk would open following the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Thursday (Sept 2) that the state would be moving to Phase Two on Sept 4.
Suliaman said he anticipated these night markets to be operational by next month, largely depending on reports from relevant authorities.
He added traders should take the opportunity to receive both doses at various vaccination centres in the state.
