       TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Tokyo Olympic organizing committee president Seiko Hashimoto said Friday it is time to exhibit the power of sports and athletes just before the games began after a one-year delay caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

       Hashimoto, speaking during the opening ceremony at the National Stadium, thanked athletes who came to Japan from all over the world for the Olympics and said Japan can show its recovery from the 2011 major earthquake and tsunami that caused a nuclear disaster.
