KUALA LUMPUR: Umno delegates from Kelantan and Terengganu are adamant that the party should not reconcile with PAS.
Terengganu delegate Datuk Bazlan Abd Rahman said the Muafakat Nasional charter signed with PAS should be terminated immediately.
“The charter that was signed in 2019 between PAS can be considered history. PAS chose to be unfaithful and chose to side with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia in Perikatan Nasional.
“End Muafakat Nasional immediately,” said Bazlan, who is from the Setiu Umno division during the debates.
The Batu Rakit assemblyman said although one-third of Terengganu state representatives were from Umno, PAS neglected the party as if they were not in the same alliance.
Kelantan Umno delegate Datuk Zawawi Othman said the decision to cut ties with PAS in the state would not change when GE15 comes, and Umno will contest all seats in the state.
“Kelantan Umno does not intend to reconcile with PAS as long as three personalities – PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, vice-president Datuk Nik Amar Abdullah and Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor – remain in the party.
“In 2019, we agreed to join forces with PAS, all for the sake of Muslim and Malay unity.
“But their leaders continued to insult Umno. Umno’s leaders never said bad things about PAS.
“On Jan 22 this year, Kelantan Umno decided to break ties with PAS. We have no issue with PAS, but as long as it is headed by these three ‘loudmouths’ with no principles, we will not work with them,” he said.
“Kelantan Umno wants to regain control of the state even though it has been under PAS rule for 32 years. We will contest all 45 state seats and 14 parliamentary constituencies in Kelantan.
“We want to see Umno and Barisan Nasional controlling the state. We have been under PAS since 1990. That is a long 32 years, the same age as my child.
“God willing, under Kelantan Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, we will be able to wrest the state from PAS,” said Zawawi, who is also Pasir Putih Umno division chief.
Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah are the three states now governed by PAS.
