MUAR: A man in his late 30s has been arrested here for driving while under the influence of drugs and for obstructing public servants from discharging their duties.

       Muar OCPD Asst Comm Zaharudin Rasip said the suspect sped off in an attempt to get away while he was being checked by officers patrolling the area.

       “The incident took place about 7.05pm on Friday when they stopped the local man on Jalan Bakri. He suddenly got into his car and tried to escape.

       “Police chased the suspect and instructed him to stop his vehicle. The suspect sped up and made a dangerous U-turn, which resulted in a collision with an oncoming vehicle,” he said.

       ACP Zaharudin said the suspect was later arrested and some 3.9g of drugs, believed to be syabu, was found on him.

       “He has been brought to the Muar police headquarters for further action. He tested positive for methamphetamine in a urine test,” he said.He said the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants in discharging their duties, Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug possession and addiction, and Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing a road accident.
