KAMPAR: An elderly man has been arrested for allegedly killing his 74-year-old disabled wife at their double-storey terrace house in Gopeng.

       Kampar OCPD Supt Hasron Nazri Hashim said the 72-year-old man was arrested at his house at Taman Desa Cahaya.

       Supt Hasron said the victim was paralysed waist down after suffering from a stroke, required a wheelchair to move about, and had diabetes as well as high blood pressure.

       He said initial investigation revealed that the grandfather had called his grandson at about 7.30am Monday (Aug 9) informing him that the victim had passed away.

       “The grandson together with his mother and younger sibling rushed to the house to find the victim lying unconscious on her bed in a room downstairs, with slit marks on her neck, and a knife found next to her.

       “When they arrived inside the house, the suspect was standing by the room door, stating that he wanted to die as well,” he added.

       Supt Hasron said that the victim’s daughter had last met her mother on Sunday (Aug 8) at about 8pm, and there was nothing unusual.

       “Both the elderly couple were staying together in the house, and police found no signs of break-in.

       “The suspect suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, and uses a cane to walk,” he said.

       He said a post-mortem on the victim would be carried out on Wednesday (Aug 11) at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

       “The motive of the murder is still being investigated, and the case is classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he added.
