JOHOR BARU: The Johor state assembly will reconvene on Aug 12 after receiving consent from Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.
His Majesty will also officiate the opening of the state assembly on that date at Kota Iskandar.
“I want all state assemblymen to be united during the assembly for the rakyat’s interest as well as that of Johor, especially to discuss the action plan to help the people whose lives are affected by Covid-19 and to come up with the state economic recovery plan.
“I feel sad to see my people living in distress and suffering from fear and anxiety right now.
“I am also disappointed that till this day, the Covid-19 crisis has yet to be resolved,” said Sultan Ibrahim in a statement posted on the Johor Ruler’s official Facebook page yesterday.
Earlier, Sultan Ibrahim granted an audience to Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad, State Secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani and state Legal Adviser Amir Nasruddin.
State Health Department director Datuk Dr Aman Rabu was also granted an audience with His Majesty, who was given a report about the pandemic situation in the state.
In a tweet, Hasni welcomed Sultan Ibrahim’s consent on giving the date to reconvene the state assembly.
Johor Pakatan Harapan said it was prepared to contribute its
energy and ideas towards the action plan to help those affected by Covid-19.
“Johor Pakatan has consistently maintained that the state assembly and Parliament must reconvene immediately to carry out its function and role, especially at such a time,” it said.
When contacted, State Speaker Suhaizan Kayat said the notice on reconvening the Johor assembly on Aug 12 would be issued by the first week of July to give assemblymen about 21 days due notice.
“Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is the Gambir assemblyman, will also be issued the notice.
“We have enough time to make sure that the standard operating procedures set by the Health Ministry and National Security Council are in place,” he said.
