National Weather Service officials are expecting showers and thunderstorms with the strongest storms bringing large hail, lightening and flash flooding in portions of north central and northeast Illinois, and northwest Indiana.
Official said waves of showers and thunderstorms are expected Tuesday into the night hours. The storms have the capabilities to produce hail up to an inch in diameter, cloud to ground lightening, and flash flooding in areas with poor drainage, officials said.
A brief tornado could happen.
The highest chance of strong storms is from early afternoon through the evening, officials said.
