Ali Asghar, aged 39, was rushed to hospital after being attacked on Saturday October 30. Police were called to the scene of the incident on Queensway in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, at around 5am and found Mr Asghar with serious injuries.

On the morning after the incident Eric Sutcliffe, who lives near to the scene, said he woke up at 9am to find the road taped off. “The police knocked an hour later,” he added. “They said there was an incident at 4.30am, but they didn’t say what. It’s worrying seeing CSI outside.”
Queensway is a main road in Rochdale and connects the town with Castleton and Middleton areas of Greater Manchester in the west and south.
