'I know how it must feel to be betrayed by Tory turncoat Natalie Elphicke'
Natalie Elphicke forced to issue apology just one day after crossing floor
“We believe that she is a toxic and divisive figure who has no place in the Labour Party and that – while it might have been temporarily headline grabbing to accept her – tremendous damage has been done to the party’s reputation in doing so.
“We know that many members of the CLP in Dover and Deal will feel bewildered by this move. We send our solidarity to them, and we hope that they will apply to the NEC to have Elphicke’s application to join the Labour Party rejected as they are entitled to do under the rule book.”
Following news of Ms Elphicke’s defection on Wednesday, Labour MPs raised concerns about the decision to admit her to the party.
Ms Elphicke today apologised for comments she made supporting her ex-husband after he was convicted of sexual assault, following criticism from her new party colleagues.

Jess Phillips, the former shadow minister for domestic violence and safeguarding, said Ms Elphicke should “account for her actions”, adding: “I’m all for forgiveness but I do think that that needs some explaining.”
One Labour MP said they thought the decision was “utterly disgraceful”, while another was left in tears by the news.
Ms Elphicke has said she will not be standing to remain as an MP at the general election and has not been offered a peerage by Labour as a reward for defecting. She will be given an unpaid role advising Labour on housing policy.
