KUALA LUMPUR: The declaration of Emergency was needed to flatten the curve of Covid-19 infections more quickly and effectively, says Batang Lupar MP Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim.
In her speech, Rohani said the government could not delay in making its consideration with the private sector especially related to the use of medical facilities premises, resources, utilities and other assets.
"For instance, the involvement of the Covid-19 swab test specimen testing laboratory can be done on a large scale with the involvement of the private sector due to insufficient government laboratories," she said while debating the motion to annul the Emergency Ordinances in Parliament on Monday (Oct 25).
She added that all parties must look at the reasons behind the declaration of Emergency more objectively.
"The use of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act alone was not sufficient because the risk transmission is no longer limited to certain localities only.
"The Emergency period will also provide space for the government to focus on the country's economic recovery, as well as guarantee and maintain security and public order," she said.
