In one of the tensest weeks on record between the EU and Warsaw, Polish prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki has accused the EU of "punishing" and "starving" his country, with threats to withhold £48billion of Covid recovery funds if they failed to bend to the EU's will.
MEP's were left reeling with Spain's Sira Rego MEP accusing Poland of initiating a war over civil rights, saying they are "rebelling".
German MEP Martin Schirdewan called for Ursula von der Layen to act and punish Poland saying "passivity from the Commission and from you Ms von der Leyen has brought us to this situation."
