JOHOR BARU: Despite the opening of the international borders and the several hundred thousand tourists coming into the country over the last 10 days, there have been few foreign visitors to Johor’s national parks.
Johor National Parks Corporation (PTNJ) director Hanis Musalman Salehan said that prior to the border closure some two years ago, ecotourism in the state was a hit, especially among foreigners.
“The Pulau Kukup National Park and Tanjung Piai National Park were some of the more popular places for nature lovers from around the world and Singapore.
“Both parks are very accessible to Singaporeans,” he said.
Hanis Musalman said there could be many reasons for the lack of tourists at the national parks including the Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP).
“Another factor is the Ramadan month. Also, there are no long public holidays in Singapore during this period,” he said.
