A MUM and her ex teen boyfriend have been charged over the death of a baby boy.

       Police were called to an address in Belper, Derbyshire, just before 10.50pm on January 2, 2022 following a report that a young baby was in cardiac arrest.

       Elijah was taken to hospital but died on January 5

       Elijah, who was four months old, was taken to hospital by ambulance but died on January 5.

       Carl Alesbrook and Elijah’s mother India Shemwell, who were in a relationship at the time of Elijah’s death, have been charged over his death.

       Carl Alesbrook, 18, of Matlock is charged with Elijah's murder as well as inflicting Grievous Bodily Harm to the toddler.

       India Shemwell, 22, of Derby, has been charged with cruelty to a person under 16.

       Shemwell has been released on police bail – while Alesbrook has been remanded in police custody.

       He appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court where he spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth.

       He was remanded into custody to appear at Derby Crown Court on Thursday.
