Sayaka Kanda (Mainichi)
TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Japanese actress and singer Sayaka Kanda has died after apparently falling from her room at a hotel in Sapporo, northern Japan, her office said Sunday.
Kanda, 35, was found lying around 1 p.m. Saturday in an outdoor space on the 14th floor of the 22-story hotel where she was staying. Police are investigating the case as probable suicide but have not ruled out foul play.
The daughter of actor Masaki Kanda, 70, and singer Seiko Matsuda, 59, later died at a hospital.
Kanda did not show up for her performance in the musical My Fair Lady at a Sapporo theater on Saturday afternoon, according to producers.
She was at a rehearsal on Friday, however, they said.
Kanda enjoyed a surge of popularity after dubbing the lead character Anna into Japanese in the Disney animated film Frozen.
Kanda got married in 2017 but divorced two years later.
