KUALA TERENGGANU: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will be Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's candidate for prime minister if the party is given the mandate to form the next government.
Bersatu supreme council member Datuk Razali Idris said that Muhyiddin, as party president, was the party’s most deserving PM candidate.
According to Berita Harian, Razali said Muhyiddin had previously stepped down as prime minister because he was rejected by a faction of 15 Barisan Nasional lawmakers led by Umno chief Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi – and not because he was rejected by the people.
Razali said Muhyiddin has proven his ability to govern during his 17-month tenure in office.
“Muhyiddin will be proposed as the prime minister candidate because he is the party president, unlike Umno,” he told reporters on Friday (April 14).
Razali also said it was odd that Umno had proposed their No.3 for the prime minister’s seat.
Umno’s supreme council on Friday decided that Ismail Sabri would be retained as its prime minister candidate for GE15.
He also said Bersatu and all Perikatan Nasional parties had no plans to topple Ismail Sabri’s leadership and would continue to support the Prime Minister until Parliament is dissolved to pave the way for the next general election.
