It says the £19-a-ticket event includes a cabaret where “mushroom performers will leave you questioning everything you thought you knew”.
Talks include “breaking the binary”, exploring themes of plant classification and categorisation, Kew’s website reveals.
A bearded drag lady will host “performance rituals celebrating the healing powers of queer nature” and a DJ will play sets “with Queer tuneology galore”.
News of the September 30 to October 29 event sparked a backlash against the botanic gardens, which were created in 1759.
One supporter accused the West London attraction of pumping out “woke rubbish”.
And one gay man said: “Obviously Kew prefers to attract weirdos, so I won’t be going. Ever.”
