GPs have voted for industrial action — in protest at demands that they see more patients in person or risk funding cuts.

Family doctors handled a record 30.2million appointments in October as patients went back in their droves.

Two-thirds were seen face-to-face — the most since the pandemic began — but now medics have voted to take action over Government demands the rate is increased.

They supported refusing duties such as writing Covid jab exemption certificates, or sending appointment records.

A ballot by the British Medical Association also found most GPs back quitting their local NHS trust to escape bosses.

Doctors are furious with threats from ministers and health chiefs to pull NHS funding or name practices that do not see enough patients in person.

New GP chief at the BMA, Dr Farah Jameel, said: “General practice is ready to break and without us the NHS will fail.”

Minister for Patient Safety, Maria Caulfield, said: “It’s promising to see the number of face-to-face appointments has increased.”
