NEW YORK (Kyodo) -- San Diego Padres right-hander Yu Darvish lost seven consecutive decisions for the first time in his 10-year major league career as he was knocked out by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the team's 8-3 defeat on Wednesday.
Darvish (7-9) failed to escape the third inning at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, when the Diamondbacks sent 11 batters to the plate and scored six runs on six hits. The 35-year-old Japanese allowed six runs, five earned, on eight hits over 2-2/3 innings.
Darvish, a five-time All-Star, has not won a game since June 21 and is 0-7 in his last 10 starts since then.
"I know I have to do something," Darvish said.
"I couldn't get my two-seamers to sink and my sliders were turning into meatballs down the middle. Tomorrow's a rest day but I have to practice."
Darvish allowed three straight hits with one out in the third and unleashed a wild pitch that scored Arizona's second run, before Josh VanMeter's two-run blast to right field.
Trent Grisham and Wil Myers homered for the Padres, who have lost 14 of their last 19 games.
Arizona starter Luke Weaver (3-3) tossed six strong innings, allowing one run on four hits in his first start since May 16, helping the Diamondbacks avoid a series sweep against the Padres.
At Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, Kohei Arihara returned from the injured list and made his first start since May 8, but the Texas Rangers were defeated by the Colorado Rockies 9-5 in the final game of a three-game series.
Arihara gave up a solo homer to Brendan Rodgers in the fourth inning but was otherwise perfect through 3-1/3 innings.
"I'm glad I was able to throw with no issues. Nothing bothered me and my pitches were effective, but it would have been better with more speed. I'm more tired than I thought I would be," Arihara said.
Arihara underwent a medical procedure to fix an aneurysm in his shoulder in late May.
At Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, Shohei Ohtani went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts as the New York Yankees snapped their four-game losing streak by beating the Los Angeles Angels 4-1. Yankees starter Gerrit Cole (14-6) struck out 15 batters over seven innings.
