The pineapple on pizza debate is a widely discussed culinary controversy - but now one head chef has put his foot down by charging £100 for the topping.

Often referred to as the marmite of pizza toppings, people tend to either love or hate pineapple on pizza.

But if you are in the pineapple-on-pizza camp you could now face a hefty bill at one trendy UK pizzeria who disapprove of the combination so strongly it's hiked its charge for it through to roof.

Norwich-based pizzeria Lupa Pizza's answer to the debate is a resounding no - and they’re willing to put their dough where their mouth is, charging an eye-watering £100 for a Hawaiian pizza on their Deliveroo menu.

The pizzeria, where the average base costs £11.70, cheekily tells customers: “Yeah, for £100 you can have it. Order the champagne too! Go on you Monster!”

Francis Woolf, the co-owner of Lupa Pizza, told the Norwich Evening News: “I absolutely loathe pineapple on a pizza.”

Co-owner Francis Woolf shares the same sentiment: "I absolutely loathe pineapple on a pizza."

Head chef, Quin Jianoran, added: “I love a pi?a colada, but pineapple on pizza? Never. I’d rather put a bloody strawberry on one than that tropical menace.”

Despite their distain for the pizza topping it seems Brits are in favour pineapple on pizza, with around 53% of the public saying they enjoy it as a topping, a YouGov poll found.

Lupa Pizza, who opened in June last year, could have their head turned and feature the controversial slice if enough Norwich locals vote for it in an online poll, which closes on Jan 24.

The pizzeria jokingly warned they might "charge £200 next time.”

“If pineapple wins the vote, I’ll make it,” said Mr Jianoran. “But I won’t be happy about it. And I might charge £200 next time.”

As of Sunday January 12, the poll stands at 53% in favour of the Hawaiian.
