KOTA KINABALU: A fire that broke out at a telecommunications server room in a Tawau mall on Friday (Nov 12) night saw over 150 people ushered out from the cinema a few floors above.

       The Fire and Rescue Department received the distress call at 10.40pm informing of the fire incident in Eastern Plaza building on Jalan Kuhara, Tawau.

       "The blaze involved a telco server room on the third floor of the building.

       "A team which was sent to the location to put out the fire also acted to clear the building by leading 158 civilians and cinema staff on the eighth floor, out of the mall.

       "The fire was under control at 11.45pm and operation ended at 12.15am," said a Fire and Rescue spokesperson, adding that no casualties were reported.
