Zaid Ibrahim questions 'no report, no probe' against Umno youth chief

PETALING JAYA: Former law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim has questioned the authorities' stance on not initiating any probe without a report being lodged.

       "Is there such a law?"

"If the country is burning and no one lodges a report, then the Police can’t do anything?" asked Zaid in a social media post on Thursday (April 4).

However, Zaid did not specifically mention which case he was referring to.

On April 3, no police reports were lodged against Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh over a social media post showing him holding a sword.

Inspector-General Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said that no investigation of the matter had been initiated.

Zaid added that no one had lodged a report when he was charged with insulting the then prime minister.

"So Bukit Aman got a policeman to lodge the first information report. It’s quite simple.

"I suspect there was no investigation because the relevant subject matter or person involved was a high-ranking Umno leader. I was a nobody," noted Zaid.

On March 14, Akmal uploaded a photo of himself wielding a sword on a recent trip to Japan with the caption: "No matter what, we will not waver from our stance. Better to die standing than live kneeling."

Zaid was hauled to court over an allegedly offensive blog post he made in 2015. He was charged with the intention of hurting the feelings of then prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
